Hope 27 is a longtime calling that God placed on the hearts of Lawrence & Holly Opundo since the earliest days of knowing each other in Tanzania. Working on behalf of Grassroots and Angel House Children's Home since early 2009 has given them knowledge and experience that has prepared the way for this newest chapter of their lives. |
Hope 27 is an expansion of the mission of Grassroots - From the People, For the People.
Our guiding verse is James 1:27. We stand up for people like ourselves because we have both endured the loss of people very close to us. We are working with the local community leaders, schools, and churches towards the education of children who have lost their parents. In the near future we will work with community leadership towards the economic empowerment of women who have endured the loss of their spouses. We are thrilled to have returned home to East Africa and look forward to all that God has in store for both our family and the people of Kenya as we live out our faith here on this side of the world. The Hope 27 mission project is first and foremost a family. Our pastor, Nicholas, calls us a church too, as we meet on Saturday mornings to worship and encourage one another. We are using a different model for orphan care in western Kenya. Our twelve scholarship students live with their extended family members and our leadership team works with the families on increasing food security, and with the students on character development and academic skills. We are so grateful to all who have invested in the the Hope 27 Education Initiative as we've gotten started. God is changing our lives, right before our very eyes. |
