Hope 27 is an expansion of the mission of Grassroots - From the People, For the People into a new community, in western Kenya. Our guiding verse is James 1:27.
We are using a different model for orphan care in Kenya. Our sixteen scholarship students live with their extended families and we meet together on Saturday mornings for encouragement, character development, and discipleship training. During school holidays, which in Kenya are April, August, November, and December, we host an enrichment camp for our own scholarship students as well as a number of additional vulnerable children from the community. We have an awesome team of seven local teachers who run seven classrooms for K-12 students. We teach and review content in Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, and Science as well as sharing breakfast and lunch together, playing soccer, singing, and making arts and crafts. We love school breaks and welcome friends and volunteers teams during these months specifically. Hope 27 is developing a farm, which is our long-term plan for funding the orphan scholarships. This past year, God has provided us with the ability to drill a well and construct a poultry unit on the farm. A variety of vegetables and fruits are already planted and we plan to turn a large portion of the farm into an avocado orchard in 2025. We have just opened up the opportunity for friends of Grassroots to sponsor a scholarship student through Hope 27. Primary school (elementary) scholarships are $1200 per child year, and secondary (junior high & high school) scholarships are $1800 per child per year. A scholarship covers all tuition and school fees, a set of school uniforms and shoes, all school supplies and textbooks, and participation in twelve weeks of Hope 27 camp each year.
